Ladies and Gentlemen, What You Have All Been Waiting For. My rendition of the Impression Notepad: The Beautiful BUTTERFLY The design specifications I set for this pad were numerous. About two years ago, I had in mind a pad that was basically a spiral-bound version of my Skeeter. However, I felt that I was repeating myself, and this was not satisfying to me either as an artist or a performer. In addition, I thought the idea was too cumbersome for a notebook, as the magnetic sandwich idea didn’t take advantage of certain design characteristics occurring naturally in a spiral-bound notepad. Plus, separating the sandwich to get the peek slowed you down at the crucial stage when you want to do a casual flip of the notebook cover. So I let the problem simmer a while, and in the interim I’ve seen at least two people release basically the spiral-bound Skeeter idea (Ha ha ha) that I had rejected. No problem; I knew I could do better. One of the things I see a lot in magic is a good idea that just isn’t developed far enough. I wanted: (1) An easily replaced common notepad. (2) An instant access impression. (3) Eliminate the necessity of ripping the page from the notepad before drawing on it. I hate that. (4) Reset it instantly, even in front of people. (5) A design innovation so cool that it would delight Mentalists when they saw it (creator’s pride!). I think the Butterfly meets all the above criteria. I really, really like this thing. The Effect -- of course, is one of Information Replication. A person writes down a piece of information: a word, name or drawing, and you reveal it. The Butterfly is the Modus Operandi; your performing skill is the critical element to selling the effect. This pad uses the easily-obtained MEAD 3" x 5" memo pads available virtually everywhere. I've also offered to build these into your favorite notepad ever since the Butterfly came out. All you had to so was ask. I found a US supplier for the Rhodia Notebook brand and can supply you a BUTTERFLY made with this very nice and familiar notebook. It is an elegant and beautiful prop. It's also a little larger (5.90" x 3.90") so gives you a bit more working room. These pads cost me a lot more to obtain, so my operating expenses are higher, but you get more for your money. American buyers might be interested in these too, especially corporate performers, because these are SWEET. I have to special order these pads so sometimes there is a wait if my supply is low, but usually I can get them within a few days. Refills are available at many online stores both in the US and Europe.
